Country Mice and Town Mice
Country Mice and Town Mice
By: Mark Birdsall, Director of Youth Programs
On October 21st, we drove down to Raj Lewis' (FFTP summer staff) church (Germantown Hope Community Church) and began a project with their youth group to create small revenue generating projects to fund their annual summer a trip. Squash pancakes were on the menu (so good!) - even better with a little pumpkin butter spread on top!
Isn't it fun when people from different areas come together and share common interests? We think so, and our Food for Thought Program is currently working with two groups of youth from Philadelphia - cooking healthy food and helping with gardening and entrepreneurial activities. On November 7th, we went to the Montgomery Townhouses in Philadelphia with a few of our youth from the Kimberton area where we brought some good compost and helped them get their garden (managed by the Urban Tree Connection group from Philly) into good shape for the winter. Afterwards, we went to their beautiful community room and joined Yvonne from Cooking For Real in whipping up some healthy food to offer to family members in a free café. We look forward to other experiences with these youth between now and next summer. Delicious, healthy recipes can be found on our website!
