We’re going to make this garden grow. The garden at North Coventry Elementary School, that is. Food For Thought helped the school establish the garden last spring, and the FFT youth worked in the garden this summer on several occasions to keep it in shape and replant things so that the fall would be ‘fruitful’ for students.
And so it is! Lead teacher Deb Ahola and the kindergarten teachers helped the youngest students harvest carrots and other crops on the first day of school for healthy school snacks.
Next up: Principal Jim Melchor reports that “Tomorrow the kids will be eating the lettuce pictured as well as the edible flowers. Thursday, they will be making salsa (from among other ingredients, peppers and tomatoes in the garden).
Delicious.
